There's no hating the 'Yorkie' as it's fondly called. Not only is this breed stylish and confident for its size, but it also has the glamorous appeal to warm every heart thanks to its long silky coat and perky topknot. There are few hassles with it because it can be taken just about anywhere thus making it the best option for most owners. Discover more about our Yorkie puppies for sale below!
The Yorkshire Terrier is still relatively short on enough information regarding its origin. However, it can count the Waterside Terrier, a small Scottish breed with a similar coat as an ancestor which was brought to England in the early parts of the 19th century. It was then developed as a breed by the English to catch mice and rats that disrupted clothing mills and mine shafts. This it could do, thanks to its energetic frame and the fact that it could fit into small spaces. This wasn't always the case though because the Yorkshire Terrier was bigger than current breeds.
Temperament
There's a feeling that any Yorkshire Terrier staring at a mirror would see a reflection of a bold and bigger image. This is because they are not concerned about their size rather, they love every hint of adventure. They are very energetic, brave, clever and loyal to their owners. Again, with great understanding, any owner would come to appreciate the Yorkie as an awesome companion to have around. However, Yorkies can be overly protective, suspicious of strangers and equally aggressive to other dogs and little animals. They can also become quite yappy, demanding and arrogant but their small stature means most owners are willing to cut them some slack.
Environment
The Yorkshire Terrier loves adventure but is very much suited to living indoors. However, they are averse to very cold and very hot weather. They are active Indoors and don't even need yard space to be comfortable; just enough to get busy and maneuver. In fact, most owners have them as house dogs and paper train them should there be inclement weather they don't tolerate. If you have a couple of squeaky toys around, they'll basically jump for joy and go-ahead to have fun with it. But you should observe they don't rip it open to swallow the contents. A ball would do just fine to keep them amused at something to channel their energy to.
Exercise
It's pretty much obvious that Yorkshire Terriers are active little dogs. To that end, they have to get a lot of exercise, especially if that's outdoors but playing does tend to take care of much of their exercise needs. But this doesn't totally compensate for their desire to walk nor should any owner object to taking them out to do so. Walking them keeps several behavior problems at bay. They'll love to run on the beach, in the park or on your fenced-in lawn. Either way, it's easy to notice they need a long walk when they constantly zoom around the house at a fast pace. Normally, they'll follow the leader of the pack - their owner and heel behind or beside.
Grooming
Regular grooming is important for this dog breed. The clipped coat requires at least a daily to a weekly schedule for combing and brushing while the topknot is mostly pulled back in a knot with a ribbon or something similar. Furthermore, full show coats need hours set aside to groom with many pet owners preferring to groom them short. However, the Yorkshire Terrier sheds little to no hair but you should clean their teeth regularly.
Our Yorkie puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. USDA licensed commercial breeders account for less than 20% of all breeders in the country.
The unregulated breeders who are selling outside of the USDA regulations and without a license are what we consider to be “Puppy Mills.” We are committed to offering Yorkie puppies who will grow up to become important members of your family. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell.

Dogs love bones and this breed is no different. However, you shouldn't overdo it especially with bones they can't easily chew on.
They are loyal dogs and enjoy the attention you give them. Make sure they get the exercise they need and don't stuff them with food. For their size, they don't eat much. Frequently smell their breath and be inquisitive when they bark a lot.
Of course, they are. They love company and have no issues staying indoors. Your kids would love them as they are loving and devoted; t to mention playful.
They have a fabulous coat and knot but are remarkably not known to shed a lot although they do have almost the same cycle as other dogs for that. Their shedding hair gets in the mix and you won't notice until you groom through combing and brushing.
The Yorkshire Terrier has a life expectancy of between twelve to sixteen years.
They are known to develop issues with their teeth so you should feed them with something dry or a bone to keep them strong. They are also prone to bronchitis, slipped stifle, indigestion and eye infections.
The Yorkshire Terrier can grow to reach heights of six to seven inches and weigh around seven pounds.
Yes. Even though they mostly have hair, the possibility of you having an allergic reaction to them is not ruled out.
It's okay to spray them but you should be well aware of the attendant benefits and problems that come with doing so. For example, urinary incontinence may develop in females but the benefits include eliminating risks of ovarian and mammary cancer.
Both could cause terrible injuries however, with the right harness, your Yorkie will be comfortable and safe.
The Yorkshire Terrier typifies the saying that the dog is man's best friend with its wholesome attitude and adventurous nature.
